The Song of Woe

from Becoming Unravelled by Aaron Gibson

/

lyrics

I wonder if my life is cursed
you’ve had a bad time but mine’s been worse
a livid sun beats down on me forty days every month it seems
you said you lost your job
but the folks after me are an angry mob
come to frighten and/or attack the substance of dreams I’ve had
roll into the hole and sleep
and you might find me crazy
but earth weighs too much from under six feet
to push up just one daisy
I’ve seen each thing in my life roll over
I not once had the luck of the clover
excepting with you

It seems an ill fated fad
everything I create’s ending up so bad
I should hide my head in the desert sand
till the corpulent lady’s song
perhaps I shouldn’t say
but the best time I’ve had was on my shortest day
but I find when I look to the morning
with no fear or warning
it’s going to be ok
